Common questions

What iPhone and iOS version do I need?

SousSmart requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. It is built for iPhone; there is no iPad or Mac version yet.

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone, and — for your recipe library — in your own iCloud account, so a recipe you import on one device is there on the next. Your cooking sessions and shopping lists stay on the device doing the cooking. There is no SousSmart account and no SousSmart server: sync runs through Apple, in your account, and we have no access to it. You can turn sync off in iOS Settings under your name → iCloud. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

Does SousSmart work without an internet connection?

Yes, completely. Importing, planning, and cooking all happen on your device. A kitchen with bad signal is exactly the case the app was designed for. The only thing that needs a connection is syncing your recipe library to your other devices, and that simply catches up whenever you are back online.

How do I import a recipe?

On the Recipes tab, tap + and choose Import recipe. You can paste the text, add a screenshot, or bring in a PDF. SousSmart pulls out the name, ingredients, steps, and timings, then shows them to you in the editor so you can correct anything before saving. Nothing is saved until you tap Save.

The imported recipe got something wrong. What do I do?

Fix it in the editor before saving — that review step exists because no automatic reader is perfect. Step durations in particular are worth a glance, since they drive the whole schedule. You can edit any recipe later from the Recipes tab.

Do I need Apple Intelligence to import recipes?

No. Reading text from a screenshot or a PDF works on every supported iPhone. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, SousSmart uses Apple’s on-device model to structure the recipe; on other iPhones it uses its own built-in parser. Either way the work happens on your device, and either way you review the result before it is saved.

Two steps should run at the same time, but the app is waiting.

While a step is cooking, the While this cooks card shows the next step with a Start this too button. Tap it and that step gets its own timer alongside the one already running. You never have to mark a step finished just to move on.

SousSmart is deliberately cautious here: it will not start a step for you, because it cannot always tell a genuinely parallel step from one that truly has to wait. You can see the difference, so the decision is yours.

My dinner time turned orange. What does that mean?

It means the meal can no longer be ready at the time you asked for, usually because something ran long. Rather than show you a time that was never going to happen, SousSmart shows the earliest one that is actually achievable. You can change the target time on the Timeline tab.

I did not get a notification when my timer ended.

Check that notifications are allowed for SousSmart in the iOS Settings app. Cooking alerts are marked time sensitive, so they can reach you through a Focus, but that still requires notification permission. While the app is open on screen, iOS suppresses the banner and SousSmart sounds its own alarm instead.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual recipes, libraries, or cooking sessions inside the app. To remove everything, delete the app from your iPhone; because all of your data is stored locally, that removes it entirely.

Report a bug or request a feature

Email support@soussmart.app with what you saw, what you expected instead, and the recipe or dish you were cooking. For bugs, your iPhone model and iOS version help a lot. If an imported recipe came out wrong, sending along the original text, screenshot, or PDF is the single most useful thing you can include.
